The successful challenge of integrating life safety into an architectural masterpiece.
Working with Kling Consult of Germany, SCOPE provided fire protection and life-safety design services for this nine-story hotel that includes a three-level, subterranean parking garage.
Along with code compliance based on the Saudi Building Code and NFPA, analysis services were performed with an eye toward seamless integration of life-safety elements and the building’s architectural design. Integration of this kind was especially significant to the hotel’s interior glass atrium, a striking design feature that runs the length and height of the building. To address fire-safety concerns without compromising the beauty of the space’s building materials, glass wall sprinklers were installed in rooms opposite the atrium. This allows the building to maintain code compliance, as well as preserves the integrity of the design.
The Galaria Hotel houses retail spaces that flank the atrium ground floor and mezzanine level. The 1st through 5th floors contain guest rooms and building-support spaces, while the 6th floor includes ballrooms, restaurants and additional support services. Guest rooms and pools are located on the 7th floor.
